Shop Work...Progress on Bases

Just a quick photo for one of our clients to see
progress on a small section of cabinet bases
for his mancave....

Here we used a mortise and tenoned maple
1 and 3/4 face frame, glued and brad nailed
with corner braces for added rigidity and
to take countertop weight. Once
sprayed and clear coated, a nice result
will be obtained. We also custom-built
a spray rack for the large single pieces
of bar top which were hot sprayed with
a custom high gloss finish over a
provincial non-grain raising stain.
The hot spray (product warmed to 120F)
enables successive coats to "melt" into
each other, reducing dry spray and creating
a super-smooth final finish that beads water
and resists marring.

Now that winter is here, we have a little more
time to work on in-shop projects for clients.
Some of our cabinet base work is remarkably
inexpensive, the ones above are $400.00
each, custom sized and installed and includes
shop time finishing. All cabinet bases are solid
stock maple (NO PARTICLE BOARD like
Kraft Maid or Schuler).

Current Transformation....Shop Finishing

We are currently assisting a homeowner with a cabinet

transformation from aged cherry varnish circa 1970's

to a Modern Waterborne lacquer finish in

OC-130 Cloud White. Notice how the new

white expands the visual space of the kitchen

and makes the face framing look newly installed !

This was a hand built and joined kitchen when

first built and has held up nicely over time - no need

for new carcass boxes or face framing. Once

the new hardware is installed it will look very

modern and will fit well with the homeowners

other renovations and projects. :)

We have included some photos from shop

finishing to show some of the steps involved

in finish work of cabinetry. Alot of the work is

prep sanding, filling, razor skimming with fill

and recoating until a nice result is achieved.

Note the smoothness of the sheen on the clear

finishing bench...

We also spray finished some crown mould for

the client at no extra charge :)

Lexington Shaker Modern/Finished in Granite Grey

Location: North Burlington,On

We recently assisted a client with the above
makeover, custom cut and finished Lexington
Shaker (Modern 1/4" depth panel).

Colour: Custom Granite Grey
Hardware: Brushed Nickel Pulls

We had not done a colour this dark before in any
refinish or new cabinet finishing, but we were pleased
with the performance and hide of the custom toned
Akvatopp Finish from Becker Acroma. Their truly
is nothing like this product anywhere in North America
(we are so glad Sherwin Williams owns the brand now !)
in terms of fast recoat, sandability, stack time and repack
time.

Cold Weather Boom Lift Work - Residential

Here we are helping out a client on a chilly
November day, finishing some exterior touch
up on some high gables (32 ft).

Product: LTC SW Duration Satin - Sherwin Williams

Sometimes, when using a high quality paint
like Sherwin Williams, 1 coat is all that is needed
for exterior window boxes/gables. Self-priming
and hi-building, no other competitor makes a
product as good as Duration Exterior.

And there it is - Another Successful Makeover !

We nest cut 33 Doors with our New CNC Rover
Router in Solid Maple, then spray finished with
CC-50 White Down (Moore) and then overlaid a dry brush
glaze to complete this kitchen.

Our spray topcoat ? - none other than the best waterborne
lacquer from Becker Acroma, a subsidiary of
Sherwin Williams North America.

The great news ? We beat 4 competitors out for
the project by more than 70% on price and more than
5 weeks turnaround !

Our door replacement price was 75.00 per door
and that included spray booth paint finishing !

We are a small shop capable of providing excellent
prices and service and have no plans to get into
a large scale production capacity, that means great
prices for customers because our overhead is low,
yet our quality is outstanding !

Deposit Policy on Cabinet Projects

Just a quick reminder to clients booking cabinet refinishing
projects with us going forward.

Our policy is colour ordering, deposit and booking for
application with a finishing turnaround time of  2 weeks
minimum. WE DO NOT HANG WET CABINETRY
OR SPRAY FINISH IN AN UPRIGHT POSITION !

Anyone completing cabinet work should understand
that proper application is uninstalling, stripping hardware
and properly labeling all cabinet hinges and hardware
so that they are returned in EXACTLY the same
position when they are re-installed. Any contractor
finishing cabinets while fixed in place is misinformed
and doing the project incorrectly and is taking
a short cut to the final result. Spraying vertical
finishes is a mistake in the industry, as it leads
to curtain sag, run and an uneven film build.

The correct method is spray on the flat
and we guarantee a better finish than
a roll conveyor auto finish machine which
you commonly see in production cabinet
construction shops.

When your cabinetry is finished after
a 3-4 coat process, we check film builds
for adequate thickness and allow an additional
week for full cure prior to re-installation.

We have been finishing cabinetry for close
to 25 yrs and we know more than most
amateur cabinet builders who try to get
by with the stain and clear finish approach,
the dark wood look has been out of trend
for many years now, and the truth is
high light reflectance solid colours do
MUCH more for kitchens than do
tired old wood stains and clear coat
finishes.

Also...do your homework on obtaining
quotations. We know of 3 or 4 Cabinet
Shops in Burlington/Hamilton who charge
ridiculous refinishing prices of anywhere
from 5,000.00 to as high as 14,000.00 for
custom finishing 35-40 cabinet doors.
These same outfits also charge for
scale drawings and routinely quote
new kitchen cabinetry around 500-800
per cabinet door. One client we personally
assisted was quoted 57,000.00 for 27
cabinets in a simple Glendale Cathedral Profile in
Painted Maple Stock with a 14 week
wait time !!! No offense, but we don't
think you should be paying for this
guy's McMansion or his yacht anytime
soon. We did the project for $3800.00
complete and turned the project in on
time in 3 weeks.

Do your homework...check prices and get
references on work completed. :)

Ocean City, Maryland..Work Hard Play Hard Project !

We were fortunate to get some great
weather at the Eastern Shore in
DelMarva Peninsula at Ocean
City, Maryland.

Project involved some light pressure
washing of siding followed by 1 coat
repainting and 1 interior
bedroom makeover. Great thanks
to the client for allowing us to
stay on site and complete the project
in a timely fashion.

Kent Narrows - a real boater's paradise
with the expansive shoreline and hundreds

People ask us why go south to paint ? Why not just stay

much larger in scale to regular homes in the G.T.A.

and, last but not least, the hot sun and salt spray air

leads to greater repaint intervals for all homeowners.

painting contracts of 10-30K and up, often

Resale Staging Project...Etobicoke Exterior Repaint

Location:  Etobicoke,ON

Small repaint for home staging for sale, including:

• Shutters
• Soffits
• Eaves
• Windows

We used SW DTM Acrylic, a high adhesion self-priming
coating for breakshape aluminum/metal surfaces. Bonds
like nothing you have seen and sprays beautifully !

Shutters were brand new spf pine to give the house
a sharp clean look. Shutters were completed with
self-priming SW Duration Gloss (Oxford Brown).

We managed to get some rest and recreation in while also doing

some very hard nasty cleaning/pressure washing

with an effective biodegradable cleaner (Greensolv).
We call it "Living the Dream in the Painting Industry"
when you get a project like this to do, but you also
appreciate how hard cottagers work to keep their
properties up and looking good. !

We prefer Greensolv as it is four times the strength of

regular cedar cleaners yet it is very safe for plants and

vegetation. It is very effective at removing algae and lichen
and restoring beautiful western red cedar !

The project took approximately 56 hours of
labour/man hours and included:

Painting Doors (5 Sets) and Surrounds
Greensolv Application /Pressure Washing for Cedar Cleaning
Clear Finish Application (SW Thompson's WaterSeal Natural Cedar)
Deck Cleaning with Vario 45 Low Penetration Nozzle/Detergent Broadcast
Window Cleaning with Methyl Hydrate

On a side note, We SUPPORT BANNING COMMERCIAL
WIND TURBINE DEVELOPMENT in this region
as the turbines will NOT be used to offset rising hydro
prices but instead will add to Hydro's revenue coffers
as they intend to sell the excess power generated at
a premium. There are plans for 275 of them in the
EastNor and surrounding community and this is
ridiculous ! The data on adverse health effects from
industrial wind turbines is also cause for great concern.

We are just around the corner from Hydrogen
Fuel Cell technology for both stationary and mobile
power needs which is zero-emission, small form-factor
footprint and can power up to 5-10 homes at

Master Bedroom Makeover

Fairly straightforward repaint of a Master Bedroom in
Valley Crest in Burlington,On.

The trickiest part of this job was rolling the ceiling perfectly in
a very hot southeast exposure - apartments and condo ceilings
are usually very warm from glass that has no heat control or
reflectivity so they dry really fast while rollling and can lead
to flash and lap lines. Our cure for this ? We use the Dynaflo
latex extender to leave us a workable open time.

Single Car Garage 12 x 18/20 foot Epoxy Quote

We can do most garage floors,( unless badly deteriorated concrete
needs to be slab-jacked) for under 700.00 complete.

Surface prep includes chemical etch and grinding, followed by
shop vacuuming and application of 10 mils dft thickness
Epoxy Coating.

We primarily specify an Epoxy that has no
flashpoint concerns, will cure in 14-16 hrs for tire traffic
and will last 5-10 years with no adhesion problems.
Colour range is almost limitless !

All surface cracks and spalling is repaired prior to re-coat
for a seamless, monolithic system which acts as a vinyl
liner for your floor. Epoxy coatings not only protect
concrete from splash and spill, but also from uv decay
and carbonization, a process of wetting and drying out
where concrete becomes more and more brittle with time
and exposure.

Leave a concrete floor uncoated long enough in your garage
and the price to jackhammer and repair can become
astronomical.
