We always wear respirators when spraying !

Had a client ask me today if we take the proper safety precautions
when sanding aged finishes and spraying with new. ABSOLUTELY !
Anyone refinishing cabinetry or furniture will understand that sanding
dust from varnish and clear coats (nitrocellulose lacquers) is full of
cancerous compounds (crystalline silica is a known carcinogen) and
all precautions for the applicator must be taken. We recommend
the Niosh N100 reusable air masks with replaceable cartridges while
sanding and of course while spraying.

We have discussed this time and again with several DIY'ers to not
take a risk with your lungs and respiratory tract by sanding and
spraying without a respirator and we cannot emphasize enough
how important this is to maintaining your health. The cumulative
damage from inhaling construction debris or sanding is quite
often referred to as a sleeping enemy.Silicosis and dust pneumonia is quite
common amongst renovation trades and can be avoided by
taking the proper precautions.

We prefer the US Safety and 3M respirator lines
as they hold up longer over each use and can be
upgraded easily.
