Client photo...ever been to Molokai ?

Great pics from a client we helped paint stage
and sell their house last year in Oakville...a trip to Molokai
anyone ? Molokai was once a colony for those affected
by leprosy, the island itself has some of the most incredible
ocean vistas and rugged coastline you will ever
paddle or see by air.

If you have not been to any of the Hawaiian islands,
you are missing out and it should be on everyone's
bucket list !

Great thanks to Dan and Sherry W.!

Client added tile..we did the cabinetry...

Lacquer Finishing by Colorscapes
Colour: SW7004 Snowbound
S/G Sheen in AcromaPro

We also added some trim fill strips
above cabinets custom routed in oak to emulate
existing wood grain.

Original 2005 cabinetry manufactured by
the now defunct Canac and still in good condition.

Great thanks to Paul And Diane C.!

Hickory Hardware and Swiss Coffee Cabinetry, New Island

New engineered maple island with custom corbels
and fluted trim panels -we also refinished the
Cabinetry with ICI Dulux Swiss Coffee in
Our KCMA waterborne approved lacquer
finish. People ask how we get our basework so
rigid - you have to not only mortise and tenon
but it's wise to add some Simpson strong ties inside
to any corner joins to prevent racking when moving
a finished piece like this. We also give the clients
the option of assembly on-site for any islands weighing
over 300-400 lbs.

New cabinet bases cut with our Streibig Panel Saw
to replace water damaged old ones.

Oil rubbed bronze hardware by Hickory Hardware.

The speed of MDF doors..refinishing friendly or not ?

Mdf engineered doors for refacing are great, but they are not refinishing
friendly unfortunately, as any methylene chloride stripper goes on wet
and we know what water or liquid does to bare MDF. Even exterior
grade mdf does not hold up in our climate leading to frequent tear-out
and replacement with either stucco, hardieboard siding or aluminum.

Only solid wood doors are refinish friendly, which is a consideration
for anyone getting new cabinetry. Opt for maple, red oak, white oak
or alder.

100% of our refinishing clientele have solid wood cabinetry.!

Columbia Forest Products to re-open in Ontario

A good sign of the Canadian economic rebound is
the return of Canadian engineered maple, red oak and
birch panels for our casework.

300 jobs will return to The Mattawa based plant
which is scaling up production which will lead to
better prices and quality than the Chinese
made panels which found their way into the
Canadian market back in 2010.

Full production is expected to resume at
the Rutherglen plant by end of Q1 (2016).

Closed Grain Oak...High Quality Refinish Underway...

The cabinetry is in astoundingly good
condition and is what is classed as closed grain
white oak. Schuler and Kraft Maid don't
give you this kind of quality anymore due to their
shift to low priced MDF low-baked doors.

Again folks, real custom kitchens last through eons
of refinishing. Particle ply pressboard cabinets don't.

Don't insult the homeowner by asking
them to throw out a 35k oak kitchen.

------------------------------------------------------------------

As you can see the challenge was to
restore badly yellowed conversion
varnished cabinets to a state of NEW.
Still not sure why the original lacquer
suppliers like Pierce and Stevens used
to promote coatings that they KNEW were
going to YELLOW over time...then again
the acrylic clears had not been perfected
until recently...

Our own Glenn Frey Tribute

I think i'd be amiss if I didn't pay respect to a great musician in my own way who we lost yesterday.

Every vehicle I've owned or every stereo I ever bought had an Eagles or Glenn Frey cassette ( dated myself) or CD in it or beside it. Every job
site or cabinet shop I've been in or worked in always had some Eagles playing in the background. Every trip south or west I've ever taken I had an Eagles cd with me.

The Eagles music could always take you to
a place or feeling that was missing at that
particular moment in time, almost like a soundtrack to live your life by.

RIP Glenn Frey, you were a genius !

Top 5 reno projects to increase your homes' value...!

1. The kitchen...modern or dated ?
2. Bathrooms...Clean or ugly and dingy ?
3. Entertainment Room...large enough to     entertain or no ? Look at your fixtures...
4. Windows...Energy Efficient or thermally challenged and leaking ?
5. Overall curb appeal...does the home look inviting driving by ? If not, why not ???
Pretend you are a prospective buyer and remain impartial....

Don't be afraid to ask your potential realtor
Or painter/ handyman...they just might see
something that you don't...maybe it's something
you did not consider foremost..

Concrete Garage Floor coatings....why protect concrete ?

Many clients ask us what is the best
coating system recommendation to
Prevent salt and chloride carbonization
Attack of concrete floors...

Hands down the best systems are
100% solids polyaspartic coatings
which can be used to prevent oil
damage from your car, strengthening
of concrete,and protection from the
alternating drying out and wicking cycles.

Our Polymer systems from Sherwin-Williams
can be applied up to 20 mils thick and look
amazing when combined with decorative
designs....

Installations start at 2.25 /sqft2 versus
the alternative of slabjacking a sunken
floor or a complete re-pour at multiple
thousands of dollars.

You might ask what the purpose of
The two illuminated posts is...

The homeowners have two electric
Hybrid vehicles and they are the charging
Posts which contain the connector heads
So they aren't driven over.!!!

Don't believe in electric hybrid yet ?
This homeowner saved $700.00 month
In gas commuting costs...hybrid is now
Proven and reliable. As soon as it is
available in Chevy 2.5 tonne van, I'm
in !!!

Contact us by phone or text please !

Because of constant service interruptions on Wifi
and Cogeco/Rogers/Shaw, ,we ask that clients
contact us by phone or text at 905-802-6099.

Email is not reliable, must transit through multiple
gateways and filters and is generally prone to interception.
We don't rely on it and neither should you.:)

Our next kitchen...

Current project involves stripping and refinishing 20+ doors

Great thanks to the Casale's for the project !
Having booked by Dec 31 qualified them for a night out
on us at the Keg. !

Staircase Refinishing over the Holidays Possible with Fast Dry Lacquers

Prior staircase golden oak refinished in
Kona Varathane Deep Stain (2 finish coats
microfiber pad into grain) followed by
Akvaline Clear Satin 212-40 by AcromaPro.

Who said you couldn't finish with a clear coat
and be walking on it in less than 2 hrs...Akvaline
can take foot traffic in close to 1 hr and is tougher
than Fabulon Crystal. The nicest effect we could
apply on the visible riser plate is to shadow glaze
and dry brush with stain/clear coat to give a nice
depth look of vintage to the Kona stain. Something
i learned visiting a leading furniture finishing
factory in South Carolina that was allowed to offshore
and was led down the wrong path and no longer exists.
This happened to alot of businesses in the Carolinas
in the mid 90's in the furniture sector. Most of them
gone now, and left behind some towns you don't
want to drive through at all to be reminded of this
sellout mentality...
