This week's completion...another Poised Taupe !

3" wide shaker rail and stile Cabinetry
finished in Target 40 Sheen 6500 Series
WB Lacquer. Most of the time you see
only 2.25 or 2 -1/4" stile and rail cabinet doors
due to cost and difficulty sourcing pre-planed 3" widths
of maple, unless you want to spend all day ripping 6" wide
maple planks out of Maple Select 1 hardwood.

Client wanted 3" widths
custom for a beefier look. We custom ordered
it from Columbia Forest Products to source
the right widths for easy shaping.

Colour : Sherwin Williams Poised Taupe Grey

Curved post island work (our first try at it
went well !). Hardware by Amerock
(RONA).

Great thanks to David and Amber V. for the
project !

Custom Bird's Eye Maple Floor transitions

We see this all the time when a floor transition from a big box supplier never fits the change from one flooring height to another...in that case we can make a custom Bird's eye maple 3/4" transition with rabbet and chamfered edges in a custom Antique Maple Stain look.

Old School Manual Spraying is Still Best....Water Curtain Booths vs Dry Spray...

The problem with automated spray machines like Cefla Ibotic as
we've directly experienced is autogun clogging at spray heads leading
to overbuild mistakes and sand-out. We sold the unit we had
at a deeply discounted price and got rid of it !

We still believe old-school manual finishing with
gravity gun is the best, it yields the most control, has a pair
of eyes and as a spray finishing applicator, you learn your
muscle memory over thousands of door faces sprayed, you
become BETTER than any robot ! What did Einstein say, the
average human being uses 3% of brain power...can you imagine
what humans could achieve using 10% ?

Anyhow, water curtain drip screens are being put into place
in some large shops even though the majority of finishing
booths are dry spray with arrestor filters. I've seen and used
them all, I still think lowest and simplest cost is still the best
until they figure out a way to keep the autospray heads from
getting clogged and throwing dry spray particles on freshly
sanded cabinet doors, something a human being is capable
of avoiding by simply wiping the spray cap between doors
with methyl hydrate or wood alcohol. The water curtain
booths sound great in practicality, but doesn't that introduce
problems with the Clean Water Authority.? As in Ontario
Clean Water Authority ?  It's a no no to dump any paint, gun wash
or lacquer down into our water supply, we always allow close to empty
cans to dry out and dispose of properly at Halton Landfill.

Like Occam's razor, sometimes the simplest approach is
BEST.

On the rise...how bout them Blue Jays

A lot of sportwriters and fans panicked when the
Jays were 8-19 out of the gate. Now at 21-26
with today's home run clinic at Miller Park,
we sit just 7 games back before June and
will soon have back Tulowitzki and Donaldson.

Can we say wild card in 2017, maybe the ALCS
title ? If we get the pitching we've seen all last
year, how about a World Series win ?

Stay tuned, it's a 162 game season and you're
never out of it until September 15 rolls around.

Keep the faith Jays fans !

Upcoming Project..It Has to Happen on Paper before it can happen in Reality !!!

Preview of an upcoming project for us
in Aldershot, Burlington.

Almost everything in life happens on paper
before it happens in reality...your birth, your
graduation from high school or university, your
certification as a professional trade etc...construction
is no different and it's why we rely heavily on
a Gantt chart process adapted from my training
as an ISO auditor.

Designed on Cabinet Pro, the kitchen will feature
striking Brittany Stenciled Glass, Bosch wall ovens
and induction range and unique white crown toppers
to jazz up the look !

Kraftmaid quoted this project at close to $38,200.00
plus customs fees to import 38 cabinet doors and
cabinet boxes. (very high priced and 16 week wait time !)
Do you really want to wait 16 weeks when the house
is going to be staged and sold for a 625,000 gain
in equity in 4 months time ? NO ! What you want is
a rapid response local cabinetmaker and finisher
like us who can ramp up quickly and get it done
much faster than these big slow moving dinosaur
companies (Masco owns Kraft Maid which is a HD brand).
Masco should stick to making plumbing fittings which
is their core business originally.  The turnover in staff
in Kraft Maid and HD is staggering and they offer
zero continuity in business process. They will never
achieve ISO designation.!

Cabinets to made to order custom fitted boxes with
16" depth (much better than 11 3/4" depth box) which
handles oversized serving trays etc. Finish colour
will be Elephant Gray by Benjamin Moore shot
in Target WB lacquer in our KCMA approved process.
You might ask why 16" depth boxes...how does 26%
more storage space grab you ? 11- 3/4" boxes were
for a time long ago...1980's design.

Free Drawings realized in Cabinet Pro Software which is
very life- like compared to looking and paying for
a CAD block diagram and being held hostage
by the estimator (yes they still do that...).

All boxes will be CNC cut on our Biesse Rover B Nested
Panel Processor and Smaller drawer cases will be done
on our Axiom small footprint CNC unit.

We took the project for $17,550.00, and, we did not
charge the client for the drawing...we will be done this
project in under 4 weeks vs 17 from Kraftmaid !

Thanks Kraftmaid !!!

Tribute to a Great Guy/Professor/Chancellor/Father

We were recently very saddened to learn of the passing
of Peter George, a very accomplished former McMaster
president and alumnus. Peter served three terms as
President and built a great legacy for the university
helping establish McMaster as one of the premier
post-secondary educational bastions.

Peter achieved greatness in his life, something that we
as men all aspire to. What more can you say about
a guy that lived the dream as a university professor,
president, father, fisherman, builder and all-around great guy.

Our condolences to his family at this difficult time.

Today's order...OC-62 from Old Butter Pecan !

Client contacted us requesting an update from
the yesteryear look of Butter Pecan woodgrain stain.
All cabinets deglossed, clean sanded utilizing our
Thoroughsand Process and refinished in Target
40 Sheen WB Lacquer. We find the Target finish
to have better white hiding power and gives us
that classy satin gallery look !

We pick up and refinish all cabinets first then come complete the
on-site work as we find it provides a better workflow
(I have an ISO auditor designation, trust me !)
and by that time we know exactly how much product
will be required to complete the panels and face frame
edges. We also remove the doors for off-site sanding
as a courtesy for the homeowner who no doubt would
NOT want the sanding dust in their home or the noise
from electric power sanders ringing in their ears for hours !

We used to do on-site work first and then found we would
run out of product requiring another trip to our lacquer
dealer costing us valuable shop time.

Our way is best, we've taken 25 years to perfect our process !

Colour: OC-62 Baby's Breath Off-White
Cabinet Type: Raised Panel Oak Solid Rail and Stile/ P-Lam Panel

Ardleigh Dr (Oakville) Installation

Coffered Ceiling and Built-In Project / Small Vanity

Clients wanted a coffered non-yellowing ceiling
finished in an ultra bright lacquer finish. No problem !

Using standard 4 x 8 poplar 5/8 sheets with a
tongue in groove installation, it was almost
like installing cabinet face fronts except
on the ceiling. The key was to locate joist
direction for a direct screw-in and to conceal
screw heads with the perpendicular routed Poplar
beamwork.  We've seen it done where the previous
contractor tried to drill just into drywall and it is
not secure enough. Our way is to use 2 1/2" zircons
direct into the joist beams that way there is no
chance of these heavy panels falling from a weak
drywall ceiling anchor.

We also provide a nice built-in solution
with varying depth cabinetry (24" and 16")
finished with solid Windsor raised profile
doors (also in Ultra-White). After that
was done we provided a nice solid
bath vanity in solid 3/4 maple
Spray Finished in a Saddle Brown.
Glass Lites 3mm standard by Clegg Glass.

Coffered ceiling lighting by Philips LED
(Gu-10 35 watt).

Great thanks to the Mack family for
the project !
